Smile - About the CD

In the past few years the jazz standards have become a passion of mine. I grew up in a world of classical musicians. I did my undergraduate work at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and my masters at Southern Methodist in Dallas, TX. Following graduation I sang with the Dallas Opera. Since moving to Minneapolis, MN, I have been playing piano and singing for corporate parties and private events. A few years ago I met John Trygstad, a talented pianist, and together we assembled a set of nostalgic jazz standards. I am thrilled to have some of my family on this CD along with the highly revered saxaphonist, Kenni Holmen.

SMILE is dedicated to my grandmother, Alice Stone. She would always say, "Smile and the world smiles with you, weep and you weep alone." As the lyrics of these jazz songs indicate, life is full of disappointments and heartbreaks, yet a single smile can lighten up a room and change a person's attitude. My inherited gift from this dear lady is to smile and laugh not only in times of joy, but also in times of adversity and sadness.
